A group of us rented Jon’s property for 5 weeks last winter. It is perfectly situated on Bastamiento beach that rarely attracts many visitors. Many days we walked for long periods without seeing another human being. There is a Coral reef right offshore which creates a natural pool that is always calm and warm! Paradise is found in that pool, especially on days when you look up from your reverie and see horseback riders sharing your space. Amazing. Vieques is a magical place. This is nowhere more evident than at this little slice of heaven!
The property was very easy to find, we walked in and it was very clean and nice. The property manager met us there who was very friendly. There were plenty of dishes, pots, pans, cups and whatever you need for a kitchen. The rooms were all clean and the beds were probably the softest I have ever had away from home. The rooms cooled off quickly and there were plenty of fans. The screened in porch was awesome again with fans. There are so many different beaches and we tried to visit a new one each day, roads can be a little rough to get there but hey it was an adventure. We found great snorkeling at Green Beach which was probably one of the further beaches we drove to however it was worth it to see huge Stingrays, multiple sea turtles, huge pieces of coral, wide variety of fish different colors and pretty much had the entire Beach to ourselves both days. We visited Coqui fire and Duffy’s, try the fish tacos at Duffy’s they were delicious coqui fire had good variety of food too but we weren’t impressed with the food. My kids thought the Bioluminescence Bay was awesome, definitely make sure that you book it so that it is dark out as possible we did the 8:00 p.m. slot with Abe’s snorkeling and bioluminescence tour. Would Stay Again!!
I cannot imagine a better place to stay in Vieques! My adult kids and I had a terrific 8-day stay. This is a great beach house with a great neighbor. I love hearing the sounds of the waves 24 hours a day. The beach is almost all your own. It is beautiful. Sunsets, snorkeling, kayaking, and just a lazy dip in a protected area are all possible.
This was a great rental for our family of five (two adults and three teens). It’s in a quiet residential area next to a wildlife refuge. The house has everything you need. There are gated entrances to the driveway and beach and a simple fence around the property. There’s an outdoor shower and a hose to wash away salt and sand. Double French doors in the kitchen/living room open to a spacious, wraparound screened-in porch. The a/c is cool and the hot water is hot. The wifi is just fast enough to load (Hidden by Airbnb) Maps and plot the day’s adventures. I had one bar of cell service. I’ve rented several beach houses over the years and this was cozy and functional.
Jolene, the property manager, checked on us regularly. She was responsive and attentive and answered all our questions. We were two days late because of flight cancellations (thanks JetBlue) and Jolene couldn’t meet us when we arrived. But she arranged to have a neighbor who owns the suites next door meet us and check us in, which we appreciated.
Jon, the owner, was a wealth of information. Check out the travel pass from Cape Air if you have a large group or plan to go back and forth to San Juan or Culebra a lot.
Jon and Jolene also helped us find a car to rent, which you will definitely need if you stay here.
Vieques’s weather in March is perfect. From the beach, you can see Culebra and PR in the distance. The beach is home to all sorts of lizards, crabs, conch, coral, and colorful fish, urchins, and sea stars. I wish we had more time for the beaches in Vieques because they are truly beautiful.
There are plenty of sights to see on the island. The bio bay is a must as is Playa Negra/Black Sand Beach. We also hit Mosquito Pier, Puerto Ferro lighthouse, Fort Conde Mirasol Museum, the 300 y/o ceiba tree, Esperanza, Isabel, and more. Everyone was friendly enough, except maybe a few other tourists 🙂 The horses are everywhere and they leave piles of evidence everywhere. However, we saw a pair of horses on Playa Negra, which was a sight to behold.
Vieques is both beautiful and a bit depressing. If the economy improves and the damage from the US Navy is cleaned up, it would be a paradise.
This home is a wonderful place to stay when visiting Vieques! It is on the north side of the island, with the ocean in the backyard, in a quiet, residential area only a few miles from Isabel II, where the ferry terminal to and from Cieba is located. Isabel II has several restaurants and shops where you can pick up supplies for your stay – and great homemade ice cream, too! The house itself is well equipped, including a gas grill and outdoor shower. The screened in wraparound porch is delightful any time of day, and the bedrooms are comfortable. One has an air conditioning unit and all have fans, and if needed, you can request additional AC units at a small additional cost. In addition to all these “plusses,” Jolene, the house caretaker/concierge, is really a gift to visitors. She is kind, patient, knowledgeable and can offer tips on just about anything you can think of. She really made our stay extra special. Two suggestions for visitors: book a car rental well in advance, and reserve a biobay tour – it’s a magical experience!
Vieques is a unique island with many ways to enjoy the ocean and nature. Jon’s place offered a chance to have an one on one experience with the island without the bustle of tourists. I felt truly refreshed after our stay; the large porches were a favorite place to sip coffee or eat dinner. This is one of the best ways to enjoy the island!Show less
Jon and his site host Jolene can’t be praised enough for their reponsiveness during our stay on Vieques. Jolene was on site to meet us and helped us throughout our stay as well as communication with Jon. The beach house is beautiful, exactly as pictured. We took advantage of the grill on site and loved the privacy of the location. The air conditioning in the bedroom worked so well my husband even got a little chilly. There were plenty of choices for beach chairs, snorkeling equiptment and beach umbrellas we used throughout our week long stay. The beds were perfectly comfortable. 5 stars.
Great house in a beautiful location. It had everything we needed. We ate some coconuts from the yard, loved the huge screened-in porch, and took frequent walks on the almost completely empty private beach. The site host Joselyn was super helpful and extremely responsive. Be aware that swimming at the private beach is a little limited because of a line of rocks/coral a short ways out from the beach but you can definitely get in and float around to cool off. But, there are plenty of other beautiful beaches on the island. Rent a jeep!
Thank you Jon for opening your home to us. It is a beautiful property and a fantastic location; we snorkeled almost everyday. Water was amazing! The house fit us perfectly. It was a great size for 4 adults. I would recommend this wonderful home!
This was the perfect little getaway with your own private beach access and just minutes from town. Between Hurricane Maria and COVID, Vieques got hit pretty hard. But we had a great week on the island and the home was comfortable and clean and had everything we needed. Go see the sugar mill ruins.
Perfect location to be away from the noise and be right on the beach – truly paradise. Great snorkeling as well as a little naturally protected area for just relaxing. FYI – there is one room with AC and you will need to rent portable ACs from the host if you want that in the other rooms for your stay.

WoW Fabulouso !!! The amazing view the comfort beds ! The thoughtful host Jocelyn was amazing at every turn. We were blessed to have a full week on this beautiful island ! Jon’s house is great for a lovely beautiful holiday ! It is best for the folks that love a taste of the island and life of a locals, thanks guys it was awesome!!!
This beach front home offers a sublime opportunity to enjoy the paradise of Vieques’s spectacular beaches, culture, and wildlife. The accommodations have a cabin-like-feel, are comfortable, and just right for families. The home offers all necessities from a full kitchen, two full baths, three comfortable bedrooms, and ample common space for family time. However, the real attraction is the location not many Airbnbs on Vieques are beach front and affordable.
Wonderful peaceful place.
We arrived early and Wendy the liaison for the house met us at the house and let us check in early. She’s awesome! Friendly and informative. The house was perfect. And the location! The beach out back is beautiful! It has a protected cove to relax in because of the reef. Wild horses and a friendly dog outside the property made a special warm touch. Any questions we had, Wendy responded immediately. I told Jon I hesitated at first to book it because there were no reviews of the house but I am so glad I trusted my gut and booked this house. It’s a gem! The beaches in Vieques are incredible. Snorkeling was amazing too. Jon also has beach chairs, snorkeling equipment, and coolers to use!
If you want a quiet get away this is the perfect place. Perfect location with the ocean right outside your front porch. Very clean and nicely decorated. Everything you need to be comfortable like living at home. The beds were so comfortable!! Everyone loved them. If you go in the summer I suggest renting the portable A/C units they have available. They made they bedrooms nice and cool. They had camping chairs, coolers and a few other chairs you could take down to the beach. We really enjoyed staying here. Lots of room so no one felt crowded at all.
More than I expected, excellent location and tranquility.
Great place. Fantastic location. Wonderful host.
Jon’s place was very tranquil, right on a relatively secluded beach. While we were not able to snorkel (the sea urchins!!),we did enjoy floating in the tidal pool! Jolene met us at check in and gave us an overview of the house and surrounding area. You will definitely need to rent a jeep to explore the island, the roads are challenging. We enjoyed an afternoon at Playa Punta Arenas, the snorkeling was great about 100 yards offshore, past the sea grass. The bio bay tour was exceptional. Highly recommended! Overall our stay at Jon’s place was great.
